Style and Substance
I’m a Christian woman who absolutely loves looking good. Make up? Nice shoes? Pretty handbag? A simple, yet gorgeous, outfit? Yes please!
I love doing my hair and nails too, it’s one of the joys that come with being a woman. This blog post is all about being unashamedly stylish, whilst being beautiful on the inside too. Often, over the years, I’ve asked God what it means to have a gentle and quiet spirit - something that is mentioned in 1 Peter 3:4. All I will say, is the testing came and all too often I failed. Learning how to balance being someone who doesn’t like injustice with being gentle isn’t for the weak. But, at the same time, I’m grateful for the lessons.
Tests and trials are wonderful (afterwards, let’s be honest) because you become better! They can be used to shape and mould you into a better version of yourself, if you’re willing to learn what God is trying to teach you.
I’ve found over time that focusing on your own development and peace leads to a much happier and joyful experience in life. Shopping trips to gather elegant pieces that you can style effortlessly? Soft beautiful colours that are subtle and graceful? Love it!
The beautiful part is when you dress a certain way, you are addressed differently too. When you’ve done the inner work (and continue to as we always have something to learn), then you match the outside, it is so rewarding. Stunning outfits feel like a warm hug.
We often focus on the inside, and I encourage us to do so, but there’s no harm in also beginning to beautify your outer appearance too. Wear the outfits that bring you joy, whilst bringing glory to the Lord.
Pro tip: Ask God to help you choose your outfits. Personally, I think it’s a great way to include Him in even the smaller details of your life.
What can you do moving forward?
Find a style that suits you! Don’t just follow trends, wear items that make you look good.
Be confident. Shoulders back, head straight and a warm smile on your face.
Read the Bible and pray more. Let your beauty radiate from within, it’ll amplify your classy outfits even more.
Trust the process. You might make some styling mistakes (we have all been there) but it’s okay. As time goes on, you’ll find the styles that work for you and you’ll be able to embrace them.
Fashion is what you buy, style is what you do with it.
