Waiting on God…

What does it mean to wait on the Lord for something that seems to be taking a while?

Well, I've decided to upload this blog post based on exactly that!

It would be dishonest not to admit that sometimes waiting can be difficult. There are times that it can tempting to try and rush ahead or take matters into your own hands but it is important that direction is sought from the Lord. One good practice to take is constantly asking yourself why? before you make a move. As long as the reasons are good, then it might be okay to take that step; however, if it is solely based on impatience, meeting your own desires or stepping out of God’s will then sloowww down.

It is important to stress that waiting on God doesn’t mean being stagnant. Seek God & work. Work & seek God.

There is also so much comfort in taking the time to read the Bible to truly understand what God says about trusting Him. The Bible talks about the Lord knowing every single day of our lives...

Psalm 139:16 (AMP) - You have seen my unformed substance; And in Your book were all the days that were appointed for me, when as yet there was not one of them [even taking shape].

Therefore, wherever God has you right now, there is a purpose for it! He knows what is going to happen in your future and He knows the right time for you to receive certain things. There is a time and season for everything (Ecclesiastes 3:1) and God makes everything beautiful in His time (Ecclesiastes 3:11).

One of the best ways to surrender and remove impatience is to worship - not to ask for something but to simply marvel at who God is and how wonderful He is. Just praying, worshipping and proclaiming His goodness. There is also a good that can come from listing or saying all of the things you are grateful for. Once you start, you might find that there is so much more to be thankful for than you had previously thought.

Here are a few tips to help with waiting on God:

  • Pray for the Lord to help you to wait on Him

  • Remember that God's ways are not your ways and His thoughts are not your thoughts - His way is so much better

  • Worship the Lord as often as you can while you wait on Him

  • Tell God how you're really feeling - He cares

  • Go out to lots of events and meet with friends. As in, get out of the house even if it’s just for a walk.

  • Be open to meeting new people

  • Read the Bible and really study the Word of God

  • Look in the Bible for moments where God prepared people (there are soooo many examples) and then fulfilled His promises - it's a great reminder that God is intentional about everything.

If you've been doing this already, continue doing this. If not, then why not start today. God is greater than anything this world can ever give us.

Whatever happens, the fact still remains that GOD IS GOOD!
